This would be a stop gap solution for a mate till he can save up for new forks.

Will it work or will the BB be too low?

His other bike is a Pitch and Specialized are always low..

Jason, I think the BB is fairly high as far as hardtails go, it's about 13". The idea behind the summer was for a frame that could be fitted with shorter travel forks, but still give a slack head angle.

Assuming the same axle-crown height when bottomed out, then the bike can't dive any further so it can't get that bad. Even if you have some tall 130mm forks (eg Fox 36 Talas, 515mm) and some low 100mm ones to put on (eg 470mm), then the 100mm fork can only bottom out 15mm lower

Try it and see what happens. I suspect it'll be okay. You'll still have a silly slack head angle on it

FWIW I'll be kitting mine out with rigid On-One 26" forks with a 29er wheel if I can nick wife's or a 26" wheel if I can't.

Run 90-120mm on mine. I'm sure 100mm will be fine.

BB is 12.5 and the bike was designed with 130mm forks in mind. He can always get a plus 5mm headset to put him on.

The clue's in the name... It was designed for 4, 5 or 6" of travel.

I ran mine with 115mm and didn't die.

well blow me . Infact dont. Every days a school day. I was under the impression it had been designed around a shorter fork but with slacker angles to give the laidback ride of a big fork but without the wallow of one

Yes but that doesn't mean you can't run 4,5 or 6" forks if you want to - and it still says 456 on it. 🙂

I'm gonna have U-turn Pikes on mine I think probably around 120mm usually.
