After going SS only last year I've decided I've had enough, so fancy some gears back, however the IO's SS only, new frame time.
Want to transfer as much as possible off the IO and the Scandal fits the bill and is something I liked the look of for a while especially in 'raw' colour.
Wondering about sizing though.
I'm 6'2" and ride a 19" IO, which I'm more than happy with the fit of.
Any tall(er)people on here riding an 18" Scandal? Hows the fit? I'd be running a 70mm stem the same as the IO.
Baring the length of the seat tube they are practically the same size top tube 602mm Scandal and 600mm IO.
One other thing I'm curious about is the head tube length and how it will affect things. The IO has a 120mm v's the Scandal's 105mm. Nothing more than a lower front end or is there more to consider, regards handling etc.
Hope to get over to On-One before purchase but may not be able to so thought I'd pester you lot first ๐
Out of interest anyone got any pics of a 20" built up, do the look 'big'?
I should probably be looking more at the 20" and its only 15mm longer than the IO, but I do think the bigger frames tend to not look as good once built up, sad I know ๐ณ
Cheers.
I'm 6'1" and had an 18" 26er scandal witha 100mm Rebas. It was a great bike but felt a little cramp in the toptube even with a 100mm stem. As the headtube is quite short I ran quite a few spacers underneath to get the right position.
I think the 20" would have been too big for me personally.
I did the same with a 18" 456 ๐

Not much help for you but that is why I am looking at a 19.5" Scandal 29er with probably a 70mm stem.
Seriously tempted by a 29er just can't justify what would then become essentially a full build.
Had an 18" summer season when they very first came out and that felt fine at the time, different uses/purpose in mind there though plus I can't find the dimensions anymore to compare.
What made you feel the tt was cramped? It's practically the same length as the io (in my case) and thats never really felt cramped to me, had you come from something longer?
Hi, I'm 6'2 and have just transferred all my bits from an 18" scandal to a Raw 20" and it is easily the best thing I have done. I cant believe I did all those miles on the smaller frame. They dont look too big either. Running a 70mm stem and an inline post and it is sweet!! Let me know if you need pics, and the finish is brill.
I'd have gone straight for the 18" however before going SS only I had a 19" Bfe which is closer to the 20" Scandal bar seat tube of course and I have to say its the best fit I've had, just can't justify that sort of money right now on frame alone plus want to keep things more 'xc''.
Pics would be ace mate, especially if its a raw.
Cheers
I'm 5ft 10 and have an 18 inch scandal and fits fantastically. Not exactly long limbed, but have fitted a layback seatpost with the 70mm stem to make it work for me. Have a mate who's 6 ft 2 and has just bought a 19.5 inch scadal 29er, which I am building tommorow night. He hopes it will fit him better than the larger steel inbred 29er he is swopping out.
Well I'm 6'3" and have an 18" 29er Scandal but it's a unique one with a bent seat tube. It's fine but I might have changed it for a bigger one were it not unique. I did have a steel 29er inbred that was 19.5" before which was probably a better fit.
I've a 70mm stem and Carnegie bars but no spacers under the stem ๐
Cheers for the pic 'skyliner'.
Bike looks ace and not as 'big' as I was expecting. Still want to get over to On Ones premises but I'm thinking it's more sensible to go with the 20" chances are I won't be getting another chance to change it for a bit if I get an 18" and start to feel its wrong.
How long is the horizontal top tube on your current bike vs the scandal?
"Size" mean nothing, the geometry of the bike is all that matters.
600 vs 602 on the Scandal.
Seat tube length matters if you don't want 3ft of seat post sticking out the top!
Geometry is relatively identical 70.5/73.5 vs 70/73 on the Scandal.
i'm 6'2" as well and i had an 18" scandal. in all honesty it was pretty borderline about the sizing, and i should probably have gone for the 20". lovely bike, though. bear in mind it looks pretty weird getting a smaller frame to fit you if you're too big for it.
this is it, anyway:

Just over 6ft an on an 18" Scandal - I'd say it's just about fine for me (as I prefer smaller frames) - if I were taller I'd be looking to get the next size up.
Rich
What size inside leg have you got? I've a 34" so according to on-one I'm fine in between both sizes, but going off my height I'm a 20" on the site.
Leaning towards a 20" really, I think now, I always feel if there's too much post showing them you've got the wrong size, maybe just me though.
I think a test is definitely going to be in order first this time.
