Any good?   Not sure if all oval rings are alike with regards to clocking etc, but I need a new one so....

No issues with mine so far, Raceface direct mount style. Now on my second but that's after at least a year and a half in all conditions

I've had one on my XC bike for about a year. It's done a little over 1000 miles and I've had no problems at all with it.

Same as other replies. No problems, no chain drop, no clogging up and good wear rate.

I'd give worxs components a look for oval rings. I really rate the one I got from them, and they have great customer service.

I’ve used lots of Superstar on a couple of different cranksets. No issues at all, but switched to Works this time around. I did have to flip my Works one so it didn’t foul the chainstay as it’s quite thick. Or maybe it’s more oval. Dunno had thrown the superstar one away by that point!

They both seem to work about the same. I tend to change cassette/mech/chain/chainring/jockies at the same time and the chainring certainly wasn’t the most worn of that bunch.

I concur with above, Superstar are great value for money and have the biggest range of options available too.

Brilliant, thanks.   I am actually asking retrospectively as its arrived and the teeth don't look as "shaped" as the SRAM round ring it'll replace.

On the plus side, despite having 2 more teeth its lighter.  🙂

All of the cheaper narrow-wide rings are copies of earlier designs, so they all work well. Even the Snail and similar ones off ebay/aliexpress are good.

Not noticed any performance difference between the Superstar and Absolute Black...

Also been looking at these - also thinking about ss as well.
Can you actually use an oval ring on ss or is the slight change in chain tension with each rotation enough to be a problem?

I broke 3 superstar oval rings with the sram direct mount fitting, not managed it with any other brand I’ve used before or since(sram, works, absolute black)

I've got my SS set up with an old Rotor oval ring. Have only pedalled round block but it was fine. Plenty of reports of it being done successfully also.

Works Co. are the best value IMO.

No issues at all with SS. I set it up with chain at its tightest point. Never had a slip or jump with an oven ring

Yep been running Superstar 32t oval SS for yonks, no problem. And SS ovals on all my bikes.

Their discounts on these are rarer though these days 🙁 (waiting to buy another 2 atm)

Blackspire Snaggletooth are similar money. I've used a couple of round ones in the past and they have been absolutely fine.

I managed to buy an oval one by mistake a couple of days ago. I've not ridden it yet but I was surprised how heavy the SRAM one I removed was in comparison.

How are people breaking them?  because if its bashing them against rocks I won't have that issue 😀

Teeth gone? Snapped under power?

All 3 of mine broke on the same mounting hole that fixes it to the crank arm,
First one after a few weeks and I assumed I’d hit it on something, Got another and the same thing happened a week later which seemed really bad luck, when the 3rd went I got bored of it and bought a works one, no problems since.
