Mine unique with its gouges and scrapes..........no need for a number. Oh and it has a moving headset.

As you're all here...

I'm looking at ordering a c456 frame at the end of the week but I'm right between an 18-20"

I'm 6'1" with 33" inside leg. I could ride either but what would you suggest? Go smaller as its quite long anyway and live with a long seatpost, or go for a 20" with less post but a slightly longer top tube.

It'll be mainly for xc duties and a few trail centres.

The top tube is LLLLOOOOOOOOOOONG

Get a 18". The frame designer Burt -also didn't give the frame alot of standover sadly. Don't listen to the [s]gate[/s] XC crowd.

Thanks for that hora.

Hopefully there will be some left on Friday (fingers crossed).

Would agree with Hora tbh I have the 16 and every other bike I have had has been bigger but the fit is fine

And for balance, go for the 20". I'm exactly the same size as you, had the same quandry and, falling for the 'smaller frames are more flickable' [s]bollocks[/s]advice, I went for an 18".

It never felt quite 'right' but I put up with it until an Alps trip when I always felt like I was going over the bars.

I bought a 20" cheap, built it up and it just felt right straightaway.

there's loads out there - try and find some people with near you who have 18/20's and are prepared to let you sling a leg over their ones?

Or, buy the 20" and if you don't like I'll have it off your hands. Second hand rate is half the new price, yeah? ๐Ÿ™‚

Lol.

I'm coming from a 16" MsIsle which is great for throwing round but its hard work on longer rides as its so short, hence looking at the c456.

There's 13mm difference in top tube between 18" and 20" c456 so not a lot in it really.

@IHN how much post have you got out on your 20" to get the correct pedal position?

Er, dunno, don't have it anymore, I changed it for an 19.5" 853 Altitude a few months ago and flogged the frame (I had the steel 456, but the geometry is the same as the carbon one).

Interestingly, the top tube on the Altitude is shorter than the 18" 456 (I found out after I bought it, not sure why I didn't check beforehand) and I have a little niggle again that it's too short...

EDIT - actually, i've just remembered that I went from a layback post on the 18" 456 to an inline on the 20". So, while the end result in 'virtual' top-tube length/reach between the two probably ended up about the same, the shift in my centre of gravity towards the centre of the bike made the biggest difference.

I'm 6.1 also, and went for the 20". And i think it's too large, but then again i haven't ridden the 18" so that might be too small!

For mainly XC and a bit of AM, the 20" is fine (with a short stem and ~710mm bar width) and it's really composed when decending. But if you want to really throw it around and style it up, then the 18" would i think be better.

I would like to be able to run a dropper post so obviously if I got for a 20" my concern is not running enough post to make use of one.

9mm between the 16 and the 18"....not much but its the standover. There just isn't much room at all on the c456.

My main complaint is that the seat tube extends some distance above the already quite high top tube. Add in the length of a dropper posts top collar and retaining "nut" assy and i struggle to get the seat really low. I have been wondering if i could cut a bit of the seat tube top off, and machine a new seat for the post clamp a bit lower down...........

Yea there's no reason why not.

Think I may stick with my initial idea of an 18" one.

6ft 1, ~32 inch leg, 18". It was a very easy choice for me: popped into the showroom, slung my leg over an 18", rested my balls on the TT of a 20".

6'1" - 31" inside leg, 18" C456 - nice long top tube and no probs with standover, even with 150mm Revs.

Is it heck. It's as it should be. Try a Sanderson if you think 456s are long. ๐Ÿ™‚

Has to be, or the headtube'd fall off.

Seriously though I didn't find the TT excessively long (in fact it had my longest stem on it) but there's something weird about the back end, it just feels further away from the BB than it actually is. Someone's sprinkled Essence of Long on it.
