So, the council doesn't grit/salt the minor roads where I live and I come off on black ice yesterday morning and snap off my olecranon process in the process (boom, boom). Theatre yesterday afternoon for insertion of metalwork and now the prospect of a long lay-off the bike, not to mention not being able to play properly with my children or help my wife with childcare for a while (she's pregnant with number 3).
Do I just accept that it happens or do I pursue some sort of claim against the council (will probably be the former as I'm not the litigious type, but I am a bit miffed).
Any thoughts?
No chance on a claim unless you can show they have been negligent
My thoughts go like this: a) has to be a troll, b) if it's not a troll then you should take a good long hard look at yourself, c) you have a duty of care towards yourself - you knew it was cold and that the road wasnt gritted but still chose to ride your bike.
Harsh but fair.
Life sucks sometimes.
SBZ, he'd have melted all that ice with your lights on. 😀
Thanks for your advice to take a long hard look at myself SBZ, most helpful.
You're right, I knew it was cold (although at +2 didn't think it was cold enough for it to be a problem), cycled home in much colder weather without any problem and I take a lot of care when commuting.
You're undoubtedly right TJ, guess I'm feeling a bit sore
