Hi all,

I've got a job lot of Eggbeaters to rebuild (as a favour for another STWer who shall remain nameless ๐Ÿ™‚ )
There's 6.5 pairs (Don't ask!) to do, and they were given to me with a variety of spares and new rebuild kits. 4 of them are the newer ones with the nut on the end of the axle. I'm well used to rebuilding these, and they are no problem.
However the other 2.5 pairs are the older style with a small allen bolt on the end of the axle. There's a rebuild kit for these (I assume it is anyway..) which includes a circlip, but as the pedals are already in bits I can't work out where said circlips fit, if indeed they do! And there's no bloomin' instructions present!!!

CB website only seems to have diagrams for the newer style.....

Any words of advice for me?

It's a personal challenge now. I reckon I can make 5 good working pairs out of the 6.5 I have

I think the circlip retains the outer bearing.

Push in the bearing and the circlip fits on top of it

Hmm.
That's what I was thinking, but I've just drilled/hacked out a siezed end cap from the only one that was built up, and guess what?
No circlip anywhere..........

Stumped.

I shall try circlip in place anyway

Ahh yes, one of the partially disassembled ones has a circlip on top of the bearing.

Getting somewhere now...!

4 pairs done.

just cracked a beer out.

This is ace. I'm in the garage, covered in grease, Zane Lown pumping tunes on the radio, fixing stuff, dringing beer and it's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more relxing than sitting on the sofa.

What does that say about me?

Peter,

If one of them had a seized end cap that should be the newer type with the nyloc nut on the end of the spindle instead of the allen screw, they don't use the circlip. The pre 2002 pedals have the push in rubber bung type cap, they have the circlip in the body.

Good advice mate, but these have been messed with before. I reckon they've been fitted with newer parts...

I can work out which is which from the axle type now.

Just on the last pair.

I'll make 5 good pairs out of the 6.5 pairs I have.
One pedal the allen bolt is siezed in place. and then I have a randon selection of older parts for the 6th pair.... Might get another workable pair out of them but the axle/bearing surface is a bit rough....might not be worth it....

Yeah that's it. 5 pairs.

Not enough parts to do another pair.

Not bad though!

Eggies for sale anyone?

All freshly serviced, 2 pairs SLs, 3 pairs of Cs, 1 with SL axles, one a bit of a hybrid, one as intended!
