subdivisions are for librarians and postmen. Get yerself over to BM if that's your thing ๐Ÿ™‚

rubbish threads fall off the bottom fast. Interesting ones dont.

Quoting takes but a quick copy & paste with a click to set the BBcode. How much easier do you need?

Last thing I would want is my email inbox getting clogged everytime RudeBoy has a fit of verbal diarrhea.

Pic hosting would take a lot of storage. That means a lot of money.

next!

Agree, Its fine as it is. Despite my initial dislike of most recent post sorting, rather than the old most recent thread order I'm quite used to it now.
Letting threads run and run is better too I think. It seems to get better responses, instead of having to keep restarting a popular thread to stop it falling off the end of the page and people being able to search for old threads, post something and for it to become fresh once more for all to see works quite well I think

Just right as it is.

Subdivisions make stuff harder to find and look/feel messy

OMG - I didn't realise people liked it like this - I assumed everyone just tolerated it. Its just a glorified chat room - there is the potential for useful info - but you'll never find it...

Now that the search function has had an overhaul - I like it almost as much as the old [colander] forum

leave it be

Should we stop responding to this thread now so that it falls off the front page?

Oh - and point out that it's in the wrong category as it's not actually bike related?

I like it. Nice and simple. Now that the search function works (I think) no need for excessive catagorisation.

A good thing to do would be for a mod to make a single sticky at the top of the forum that was a link farm to all the classic questions - what mini pump? - Having problems with tubeless - tow bar or roof rack? etc etc. Seems silly that these questions come up every other day when they've been beaten to death 643 times already.

only problem with that is that products change all the time new ones come out old ones become redundant etc. asking "what tyre" in a different season/year gets different responses.

i'm alright with things things they are. maybe bonesetter can do better ๐Ÿ˜‰

As with everything, the dissenters are quick to rally, but I'm not on my own (there's Poly with me at least), we were discussing the forum on last night's ride and some of the points in my OP were those of others, and most seemed in agreement.

My only comment is that the classifieds could do with being a bit more organised but for a free forum I can't really complain!

I've been a member of this forum since 2003, and it's my automatic choice when I come onto the 'net. It has a shortcut app on my phone's homepage. I have looked at various biking forums over the years and none come close to this one for it's ease of use and it's genuine sense of community. I've gleaned all sorts of info while browsing through threads, including a wonderful receipe for tubeless sealant that I've used for years. Despite what they may think, it's clear that STW inhabitants like the format, which was made abundantly clear by the comments made regarding it's layout when being replaced after the events at Christmas.

Bike forum is good...its random!

Classifieds could do with sorting out into sub cats.

Search function i find hard to use effectively. [i](EDIT, just had a search and its been redone!)[/i]

The format's fine, but the board software's not great. No email notifications, no private messages so far as I can see, and no quote button. None of it's the end of the world but it could all be added without actually changing the board format/layout. The same only better really.

I don't really use the classifieds but a division into for sale and wanted would seem logical. The rest seems just fine.

no-one said it was just you, but you were the OP. in any case if your mates are users too they'll post, but i'm afraid i'm a rallied dissenter ๐Ÿ™‚

The classifieds could do with more classifications, so that stuff stays around for longer.
The bike and non-bike topics have enough classification IMO

I think this a great idea. PM facility would be good, instead of having to write your email adress anti-spam stylee and hope for the best.

What about more threads on the front page so they don't drop off as soon?

Great people & content, poor layout.

I like the no avatars / sigs, but the whole 2 forum thing I don't like. Lack of email notifications is a PITA.

Hard to balance as a forum for every topic a la MTBR doesnt always work very well either as people only hand round in a couple of them....

Ah, there's another minor feature that's missing, being able to choose the number of posts per page. Trivial of course but it's nice to have.

Agree that splitting wanted and for sale would make sense, but the board I mod has that and it's a total pain, everyone ALWAYS posts in the wrong forum.

Like mamadirt, I liked it before. I like it now, it's changed without following everyone else.

I hate a lot of other forums. Avatars, signatures, animated smileys, post counts, joining dates, locations, all that stuff is just ****.

I like the way 2 forums can be viewed as one, or separately. I like the fact there's no PMing, it would take up lots of server thinking space and besides, there's email for that.

In short - nice one STW. ๐Ÿ™‚

I'd only email you, if you had something inertesting to say.

Maybe people expect everything on a plate these days. It doesn't take too much effort to browse, search, do a "quote", make contact with people, use FlickR or Fotopic.

I'm not knocking progress but it's not that long ago that you'd have to write a letter or find a phonebox to do most of the things you do on here. Progress is great, what the STW team do for us we should be grateful for. The site is one of the (if not the) most popular cycling sites in the ether so they must be doing something right and they're developing / improving it all the time (I see we can now go straight to page on threads for example). Don't take it for granted.

Why do we need PMs? What's wrong with email? Same thing innit?
I use a forum that has PMs. Every time I get one I have to open the email notification, then go to the message page, then open the message. Emails cut 2 of those steps out FFS!

Everything is nice & clear, easy to use and read. You can ask any questions, buy stuff, sell stuff and all for free.

However, my toast caught fire in the toaster this morning, so can the guys at Singletrack sort that out as it's obviously the fault of the new website.

My coffee tastes charcoal filtered now ๐Ÿ˜ฅ
