[#10260264]

This probably comes into the bleedin obvious category but I just wanted to double check - I've only done HT2 BBs before.

I'm swapping all the bits from one frame to another for one of my kids. Cranks are square taper - shell on old frame is 68mm, new frame is 73 mm.

I'm struggling to get the old bb out to check the spindle width - measuring with a ruler I'm pretty sure it's 113 mm.

So I'm assuming I just need to order a 73mm 113mm spindle bb for the new frame?

And any recommendations - Shimano UN55?

Thanks

I'd say you're right on both questions.

There are at least 2 different square taper patterns.  Are you sure the current one is shimano ?

Haha, I knew this would happen. The cranks are Truvativ - does that help ?

Have you tried the " BB removal tool in a vice, lower bike frame onto tool, rotate the frame" method?

Thanks Squirrel, I'll try that. JoeG - no mention of Truvativ on there but I guess if I can confirm that Truvativ are JIS then shimano BB would be fine..

Shimano bb will be fine with Truvativ cranks.

Bolt the bb tool onto the bb with a crank bolt and washer then put large socket , often 32mm over the bb tool and use a large bar and maybe some heat

un55 is about all you can get that’s ok now since un72 was dropped
