[#1282692]

Hi,
I've got some very early Pace RC36 forks that have been kicking about in the garage for a while (the ones with removable steerer and elastometers). Now I've decided to put them on a bike and so tried to fit a hope headset crown race.
For some reason the race is loose on these but when I try it on other forks it is fine. Any idea where I've gone wrong or what I can do to sort this out?
Any help would be greatly appreciated please?
Many thanks, Clwydrider JNR.

How loose is loose?

If it's very, maybe they're a 1" steerer tube.

I thought that at first but I checked them with a digital caliper and they are definitely 1 1/8th.
It is loose enough to rattle about and not sit on the steerer tube properly, probably 2 or 3 mm out.

If your really stuck ... go visit RetroBike.co.uk , and find this chap called "just backdated"
He actually services old pace forks & has spares n'stuff availible ... maybe your missing some kinda crown race / steerer tube shim or something like ???
