I'm rebuilding my old bike at the moment - a long story worthy of telling elsewhere - but sadly the old paint is now very dull.

It's a Ventana el Toro - the paint is a beautiful sparkly dark bluey green, with a clear coat over the top. No chips or big scratches, but the clear coat is covered in small scratches and scuffs which have dulled it, stopping the sparkles from working!

I'd like to bring it back to life, but I don't want to ruin it. Any ideas what or how I should polish it? At home I have brasso, and that's about it!

Get some Farecla G30. You can get a tube for not much money, its a polishing compound so will remove any small scratches etc. If you don´t have any polishing cloths an old clean T shirt will do, remove any seams first. Apply a little compound and rub away removing any residue with a clean piece of the cloth, Finish off with a little car wax(polish)
