After Googling, my superb spider sense says it probably isn't Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy or the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

So.... what does it mean???? 😀

Typically sold in a box in a supermarket, its the same vague shape as a bicycle, but its really not a bicycle, its just an object which has no real purpose in the world.

It's a Chrome browser plug in. Quite useful.

It's a way of looking down at cheap bikes because they are so cheap they couldn't possibly be accurately described as bikes, they are not even worthy of the name. But they are still shaped like bikes.

This page from South Coast Bikes was the first place I saw it being used (in 2006) and covers it well.

If you ever have the misfortune to have to try and fix one the name is appropriate.
One of my colleagues asked me to look at his £90 full suss. Take it to the bike shop I said. Guess what I got to work on on my Saturday job?
Yup, the same bike. It came in for gears & brakes. The forks rocked forwards & back wards and the rear triangle wagged from side to side. The block was so ****ed I had to take a grinder to it to get it off the hub and the brakes were a bugger to get set up.
Hatefull hatefull thing

PS it was 3 months old at this point

Just to clarify here you understand...

Surely there are other Bike Shaped Objects in existence??!!

Also, if an expensive e-bike is in a Bike Shaped Object (box) is it actually still an e-bike or a dead cat if you look in the box?

This is so damned complex.

Halfords is a good stockist of the BSO variety. Check this -

From a distance, you might think "ooh look, a bicycle"

But then you look closer...
