Looking at a potential holiday near Okehampton. A bit of googling suggests there might be some riding in Abbeyford Woods but all the references are pretty dated. Does anyone know about the current state of the trails and access?

Not much I think. All the north shore got demolished a few years back.

I'm no expert on the area but if you cycle up the Granite Way from Okehampton it will take you up to Meldon Dam. There's got be some stuff to ride up there on the moor....

I've been exploring round Meldon a couple of times and while there is some fun stuff around the reservoir its not brilliant.

Probably worth the slog up to yes tor on a good day for the views.

It looks like Shred's RaceFace Circus of Dirt Round 3 was here in July 2011 so there must be some reasonable riding.

I don't know the Okehampton area itself but even if there's nothing suitable in the immediate vicinity, there's loads of options on East Dartmoor within half an hour or so if you're prepared to drive a bit....Lustleigh Cleave, Hamel Down etc are all withing easy striking distance and on the right day can be fantastic.

Nice xc singletrack in abbeyford woods - as per the racing there. takes a bit of looking for i'd expect. if i lived closer i would have memorised the xc track as it was a good blast through the woods.
