I've read the blurb...??
I don't get out much, so what does it do? I get the hype, that they've maximised (what on earth does this mean in a cog-chain relationship) drive......you know what.....I don't get it.
Please explain, in simple terms....it's friday and I'm tired and need a hot coco.

It's gears, they are shiny, or a matt finish, there are 10 of them, or 20, or 30, little clicky thingies on the handlebars make the gears change, errrrrrr, think thats it. Ohhh and people complain about their rear mech not being compatible with the last one they bought in the 80's.
What does it do? Empties your wallet. ๐
It does very little that 8 and 9 speed didn't do perfectly well before it but it's progress so your life won't be worth living if you don't buy it.
It's just Shimano's name for 10-sprockets-at-the-back.

A Ford 105e has 5 seats and an engine, so does my focus, bloomin corperations trying to screw money out of us by telling us that the new shiny thing is better!
Gears wear out, if you still have 8 speed gubbins and it's not worn out then you probably haven't been riding enough since 1996 (or whenever 8 speed happened). And desppite the prices going up, an XT mech is still less than a tank of petrol (and will do more than 500 miles!)
