As above really. If it is OK, what's the best way? Fine saw?

fine, sharp saw, slow cutting, then smooth it and maybe dab a bit of epoxy on the cut end

I suppose

Wrap some masking tape around the cut area to help the saw grip and do it in a well ventilated area and use a dust mask.

Remember measure TWICE at least before cutting.

Why are you cutting?

It weighs nothing and its always better to have more than less seatpost in a frame - or is it because you can't drop it?

was just thinking to remove unnecessary weight. I only need a ~220 mm post but it is easier to buy a 300 or 350

My Next SL seatpost has marked on it how much weight you save by cutting it down to certain points. It's not very much! Something like 20g per 100mm I think.

Cut the sleeves off your top and sand down your tyres sidewalls, you'll save more!
