Retro83 - why not go to organic pads? They should be not porous, if my understanding is correct. So anything spilling on to them would get rubbed off and that would be that.

Only time I had probs is when I spilt Gt85 on the front caliper during cleaning-had to sand my pads but they were too contaminated.

I've never had probs with mud or dirt and considering top hybrid bikes on road with deore style brakes which work fine on the road etc.

They are designed to work in muddy conditions after all.

Check for leaks. Does your brake performance suffer? are you topping up?
I never take my pads out unless they are worn or not getting any bite.

They are organic at the moment. I've just ordered some SSC pads to replace these with (stop laughing at the back!)

I left the levers pulled really hard with loads of laccy bands last night and this morning there was no trace of oil on the pistons.
Only thing I can think of at this point is that there is oil soaked in right through the pads and no amount of heating, sanding etc will ever sort them out.

The 'shore' canadians had a method of getting oil out of contaminated pads back when Hayes were the only brakes to have and pads were in sort supply/expensive.

All I can remember was it involved some kind of solvent cocktail and a couple of weeks in a jam jar.

They were very protective of their 'clean' pads.
