Anyone had this wear off or lose efficacy? Mine doesn't bead for toffee any more. Either it's worn off or I've got some contaminant on it that stops it working.

I never found it to work that brilliantly in the first place.... Only real difference seemed to be they didn't fog up quite so readily when it was cold.

What do you mean? Hydro from the greek for water and phobos from the word for fear meaning averse to water.

Doesn't preculde the presence of a non-water based contaminant, does it?

Not brilliantly no, but it meant that if you did get sweat on them then a quick wipe on a jersey restored them to tip top shape, whereas with my old ones it just smeared and you had to stop and wash them in a stream.

I dunno what you are talking about sfb. The hydrophobic coating isnt' working well because sweat isn't beading off well. Sweat being water. What are you talking about?
