I'm looking at my next cycle2work purchase and this is top of my list at the moment, I miss not having a hardtail. Does anybody have one? Do you rate it? How do you get on with the big tyres? My last hardtail was a Bird zero tr, which was great, but they are over budget now.

I've got a 29 Comp. Great geo and spec. Frame's stiff as all the reviews say and you wont get a dropper, but the Nukeproof one is a bit naff anyway.

Buy.

I don't have one but test rode it. It's as stiff as a stiff thing, which personally switched me right off but it does handle very nicely. Some people really like a stiff hardtail so it's not a criticism exactly. Arguably it's a little short of reach even when sagged but it's fairly long so that for me balanced out a bit. A good bike, no doubt at all.

The Forekaster tyres are shit, mind. Maxxis turned their enormous skills to the impossible task of making a tyre as disappointing as the Nobby Nic, and very nearly succeeded.

I thinking of building one of these up but would ideally like to run 27.5+ and 29er wheels but unsure if to go 275 or 290??
The 275 takes 2.8 plus tyres, does that mean it'll fit 29 too ?
I think I'll run plus tyres most of the time so thinking the 275 makes more sense.
I've emailed nukeproof but didn't get any response.

Try contacting them on their Facebook page - usually pretty responsive.

I'm looking at the 275+ which comes with 2.6 minions. Northwind, was it the 2018 version you tested? The new one is supposed to be more forgiving due to redesigned stays.

When you say stiff, are you saying the ride is harsh?

"When you say stiff, are you saying the ride is harsh?"

I've got a 290 pro. Certainly stiff but no harsher than most hardtails I've ridden. Maybe not the best allday bike for rocky trails. But it's a great messing about in the woods/trail centre bike.

doesnt feel harsh to me especially if you get some speed up.

To be fair its not the best bike for long days anyway, surely with its goe and weight

I would, but basically the word you use just shows your own bias. Someone else might say direct, or accurate, or how it puts the power down so well. I like a bendy hardtail personally.

For me, nothing to do with comfort, that's never bothered me either way- but a bit of flex works nicely for me in rough stuff, especially when there's a lot of chatter- more very rough surfaces or constant roots than single bit things, that you can think yourself over. But it couldn't be more ymmv

I'm thinking of sizing up to XL, the geometry seems pretty close to my size L Bird zero tr, except for another inch of seat tube, but no issue with my long legs.

Swapped over the parts from my Smuggler, wanted something with less pivots for local xc rides.

Geometry is perfect, bit slacker than the smuggler and a little shorter in the top tube, although the seat tube could do with being a little steeper to give more options with saddle position.

Covered over 60 miles on it so far, stiffness is comparable to the sherpa I had a while back, although a fair bit lighter so the scout is easier to pick up over stuff (up stairs, ledges, fallen trees). The solaris I had was more compliant, although I did have a carbon post which had a lot of give.

Fit and finish of the frame is really good, came with a headset too which was a nice surprise. Not sure on the internal reverb routing in the downtube when the rest of the cables are external, has meant faffing with wrapping cables to stop them rattling.
