A few weeks ago I kind of made my CX race bike a bit more multi-terrain friendly by fitting a pair of Spesh Pathfinder Pros in 38mm and this led to me thinking it made my actual gravel bike pretty much redundant, as the CX bike is a fair chunk lighter and more sprightly in it's handling, which I like. It'll also double up nicely as a winter roadie with a set of 32mm Spesh Roubaix Pro's on it.
So with this in mind I put the gravelista up for swaps, wanting an equivalently specc'd 29er XC HT for winter duties in the woods and as a spare bike for next summers racing plans and this came up, it's a Scott Scale 910 with a bloody good spec, of a Fox 32 SC Performance Elite fork, GX Eagle (the metal bits need refreshing), Mavic Crossmax and a fresh set of Vittoria Mezcals.
Granted the Vittorias aren't the greatest in mud, but they haven't managed to kill me yet in the 3 rides I've had on it, but on the non-muddy bits they bloody fly. It's the first time I've had an XC HT in about 3 years and I've missed one to be fair, especially for those short local rides and just hammering about the place.

Nice bike. Looks fun. If it was mine, it wouldn't be long until it started to be changed to be more like my other mountain bikes:
- Wider bars
- Bigger more aggressive tyres
- Dropper post
- Shorter stem
At which point it'll stop being the flying machine that you actually wanted in the first place.
Have fun!
That looks spot-on for a winter bike, I’ve been toying with the idea of building up something similar myself.
I’ve got a CX/gravel bike that I use on the road but in reality, I never ride on the road anymore.
A nice, light, fully rigid MTB with good mud clearance would be ideal for winter riding around here.

I'll get the ranger on to it immediately, bloody staff not doing their jobs!!

At the end of the day its a proper XC race hardtail, so the 740mm bars will do as will the 70mm stem (flipped obvs) a dropper is a consideration as I have one on my XC FS, but you ain't getting bigger than a 2.25" tyre in the back of one of these and that's more than enough for it's intended purpose.
I bet it flies along!
That looks a great bike and it's kitted out well. I have put a set of Mezcals on my 29er Scandal for xc riding and they are fast. With the right pressure the bike flies along back lanes and bridleways.

The pilot is slightly letting the side down at the moment, but that will change over winter 😉
My, what a small waterbottle you have.

Plenty for an hour in the woods 😉
