What do you actually DO with the growing pile if worn out bits? Pile them up and take them to the scrappy, into the household recycling or what?

I keep as much as I think I can re use. Parts gets demoted from good bike to hack bike. Stuff I don't think I'll use but may have a useful life goes to local bike recycling project. Totally knackered stuff goes to the dump.

I did think it odd that he binned the chain because of what his checker said. If it works leave it on and squeeze more life out.

nick... That's pretty much my philosophy, but there does seem to be an ever growing pile of bits which 'one day might possibly vaguely be useful' (including a virgin 7 speed suntour screw on cassette!)

My own system in descending order....

1. Keep if going to be useful on one of my bikes
2. Try and sell for real money to someone who wants it
3. Try and give it away for Karma to someone who needs it
4. Weld it to other bits to make sculpture/trophies for fun competitions
5. Weigh it in as scrap

The whole process may take over 30 years however, judging by the Raleigh Tour de France frame hanging in the shed ๐Ÿ™‚
