I’m near Helmsey for a week. There seems to be loop from there out through Rievaulx but i assume that’ll be really muddy.
What about that long track over Rutland Rigg does that stand up in the winter? Or is frozen up there? Or snowed in?

I'll ask my dad next time I speak to him (he's a volunteer ranger up on t'Moors. Rudland Rigg is pretty weatherproof as long as it's not frozen, as are the big old railway tracks.
