I'm staying at Beddgelertin snowdona, is it a case of just go ride my bike, any nice roads or routes i should do? I'm wanting to get some big hills / mountains. And can ride 50 - 80miles as time constraints.
I will be riding every morning for a week.

Ideas?

Oh wow you are in such a nice spot! It is a case of getting on your bike and making a nice loop! Head up to caernarfon along the A4086 and then back up through the industrial estate to Llanberis up to the Pen Y Gwyryd Hotel and whizz back to Beddgelert, That's an ace ride! Or down to caernarfon and along the coast above bangor through Rachub to Conwy, down all the wiggly B roads B5106 to Betws Y coed up to Capel Curig and all the way down into Beddgelert. Loads, or go east, just pull out a map ๐Ÿ˜€ Dunno about rides down the Peninsula from there but there must be some fab rides!

My regular loop is Bethesda > Myndd Llandygai > Llanberis > Pen Y Gwyryd Hotel (just up from Beddgelert) > Capel Curig and back to Bethesda. The Bethesda > Betws > Conwy > Bethesada route is an ace one too. This is improved by having a poke around the lakes accessed by going up the lane by the Ugly House (a real place name!) and over towards Trefrew. I wouldn't both with trying to time that one, just cruise and enjoy the views.

I haven't ridden the Llyn Peninsula (shame on me) nor even Anglesey, but those are options too. Some more routes at:

SueW should be along soon who is the N.Wales roadie expert!

Janesy - plenty of big hills to go at round here ๐Ÿ™‚ Some suggestions:

1. Beddgellert, Pen-y-Gwryd, Capel Curig, Betws, B road down the valley, Conwy, along the coast to Glasinfryn (there is a traffic free cycle path and quiet lanes all the way parallel to the A55), back lanes via Pentir and Penisarwaun to Waunfawr, back to beddglert

2. Beddgellert, pen-y-Pass, Llanrug, Waunfawr, Bontnewydd, cycle path to penygroes, Nanttle, Rydd Ddu, Beddgelert

3. Beddgelert, south on A498, then A4085, R on B4410, short section with cycle path on A487, L on A496 to Blaenau Ffestiniog, A470 over the Crimea Pass, back lanes parallel to A5 to come back over the Migneint either via Cwm Penmanchno (steep climb on B4406) or via Ysbyty Ifan (B4407) to Ffestiniog, then B4391, and back to Beddgelert

4. Llyn Peninsula route: Beddgelert, tremadog, Criccieth, aberdaron, Nefyn, Clynnog-fawr, Penygroes, Nanttle, Rhyd ddu, Beddgelert

There's lots more hard steep climbs up back lanes, bit harder to navigate round, but if you want company then let me know and if I'm free I'll join you for a ride one day.

Enjoy - its an ace place to road ride ๐Ÿ™‚

Sustrans route 5 - runs parallel to the A55 between Conwy and Bangor as a traffic free cycle path or quiet back lanes -well signposted.

Sustrans Route 8 (Lon Las Cymru) - mostly traffic free cycle path that runs from Bangor to Caernarfon, and then via Penygroes to Brincir (near Criccieth)

Definitely use these - don't cycle on the A55 or A487 near Caernarfon if you can avoid it.

If you like climbs check out stwlan dam from Blaenau Ffestiniog and also Tarmac road from llan Ffestiniog to bwlch / manod quarry ( where the contents of the national gallery was stored during the war)

All those years at the mother in laws caravan and only once did I get out on the road bike ๐Ÿ™

Just run through some of those routes off Sue and they look crackers.

I think we will be having a road ride in Wales weekend as well.

The road from Caernarfon to Bedgellert alongside the railway line is very scenic
