Litigation paranoia!

Has ANY landowner there been sued by a trail user?

Not heard of a successful thing but the reading looks more like a piss poor approach to sorting out access, building etc.
If I was a landowner trails are one thing but constructed is another.

Yep it's a weird one with a landowner seemingly not affected by MTBing all of a sudden getting upset.

Landowner probably looked to develop part of the land, local authorities deny permission. Landowner threatens to disrupt tourism if permission is denied and shuts trails on their land.

That's my reading of it.

All the coverage you need over on NSMB.com

Way I read it is bad blood between the land owner and the district after the district rezoned the area which prevented the land owner cashing in on the rapidly escalating value.

Also I think I read that the North Shore's agitator in chief (I won't name her as she is known to trawl message boards, she is the NIMBY in chief though) highlighted some trail building to the landowner when perhaps (although unlikely) they hadn't really been aware previously. It has been pointed out to her that she may have shot herself in the foot as all other trail users have been caught in the crossfire...

Edit: Not sure if trail tourism is really recognised as such, the trail advocacy groups (NSMBA etc.) don't seem to use it as a bargaining chip, or at least not that I can recall.
