Are they likely to be interested in a waterproof that's no longer waterproof? Bought on ebay, lost details, not worn much, proper care etc

Bought on ebay - Loads of dodgy "NF" stuff on ebay.

What did the retailer have to say?

EBay will be your issue here, but probably worth a shot, always is.

It's got a wee hologram with the labels if that helps.

Lots of fake NF jackets on Ebay complete especially Summit Series. Did you buy it new or not?

Is the hologram silver on a white label?

Ah - that's alright then. Holograms are impossible to replicate.

If it was bought new off ebay (not from a known retailer with a proper shop also)
then the chances are it's fake.

Sorry.

depends if you bought it from a shop trading on ebay or a private seller. if the former then you possibly have SOGA on your side.

A side note with TNF returns - they take aaaaaages to process and if you do send it off for testing etc, don't expect a response too quickly!

Have you tried tumble drying it? I got a bargain north face jacket around this time of year a while ago, so keep an eye out at the major retailers in the January sales.

A few years ago I had a leaky waterproof coat replaced. No receipt and no questions asked.

same as dhrider - few years ago I took a jacket with a busted zip into tiso in glasgow and they shipped it off for me and got it sorted.

I didn't even buy it from them...

If you want to contant TNF direct, their email is: tnf.warranty.uk@vfc.com

Is it definitely leaking? You getting wet when wearing it and water coming through it are not necessarily the same thing, and if the DWR's gone that probably won't be warrantied.

Wet inside arms on brief/slow ride through town in rain - defo not sweat...DWR does not affect proofing IIRC? just promotes beading & breathability?

You could always talk to the guys at TNF UK in Staveley and see what they say - they probably have a pretty good idea of their own warranty procedures and they're nice folk as well, lots of them ride bikes. Just saying like...

Right, but if the beading is gone and the outer gets soaked breathability goes right down the drain and there can get to be a surprising amount of water in there quite quickly.

Or it could actually be leaking of course!

It's not like it was leaking at a seam, it was all the way down the arms, which suggests duff fabric => fake?

The last time I had something similar was when the DWR had failed (down to me not washing and looking after it)

Was winter walking in Cumbria, and possibly not cold enough for the jacket I was wearing, and I was soaked inside the jacket sleeves after 45 mins from sweat.

If it was raining hard I would have sworn the jacket was letting water in, but it wasn't raining that hard, but enough to wet the fabric outside.

(this was a genuine jacket from the North Face shop in Leeds)

Bought on ebay
Not a chance.

I've had a NF jacket replaced under warranty. I bought it in a Ellis Brigham sale, lost the receipt and I was very upfront and honest saying I paid £60 in the sale. They offered me a £250 replacement one 😯
