Quite a lot of duplication in pack contents, I am sure you could reduce that using a decent leatherman etc. Spare jockey wheels and a spare derailler case in point:)

Great photos btw.

yes, I've been thinking that, especially as cutters and pliers are almost too stiff to operate ๐Ÿ™ This always seems to happen in a few years...

SFB: Hair wax???

uh, I have plenty of natural grease thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ The pot was my son's, but just the right size for putting small things (like coins) in.

You could -

Run tubeless cutting spares tube to one.
CArry just the glueless patches
Buy one decent multi tool which will erradicate all those tools
Launch the rear mech, chain etc. If it goes tits up cut the chain and run it SS
Carry an energy gel instead of apricots as emergency and carry an energy bar. Will last longer before going off.
Im sure theres another thing but I cant think what it was..

Still. Nice pics!

Run tubeless cutting spares tube to one.

everyone I know who has tried it has given it up as a bad job. The latex stickum doesn't like freezing conditions.

CArry just the glueless patches

I've never patched a tube on a ride in 12 years! I had to test the glue to see if it had dried up ๐Ÿ™‚

Launch the rear mech, chain etc. If it goes tits up cut the chain and run it SS

I've always been hard on rear mechs, and SS'ing is also rubbish

Carry an energy gel instead of apricots as emergency

if I wanted to eat spunk I'd be gay :o)

and carry an energy bar

I actually had 5 choccy bars but they were so ratty I chucked them out

You're not very well, really, are you, SFB???

doubtless you're right. I took all the stuff out to wash my pack (1st time in 2 years) and then put everything back except the 5 mouldy chocolate bars. I've never worn the emergency clothing for at least 6 years, and I'm clueless with a compass as I can't remember if red or black is north...

Looks like a good amount of stuff, I carry a similar amount guiding..

Individual tools are much better than multitools if you actually have to use them! Also gives you duplicates which is sometimes handy (2 5mm bits on some suspension systems), I carry spare spokes and a knife might be handy?

Thats alot of bits! Id shrink it by taking half a chain and leaving the mitts and probably the spare clothes at home. Though I can see why spare gloves and socks are useful. Must weigh a ton all in all! I carry a similar amount though.

they're just well worn, but completely clean, and only a little leaky...

Must weigh a ton all in all!

Add 1.5kg of camera too ๐Ÿ™‚

I see the spare clothing as a necessity in winter so as not to burden the others if there's a long delay. I've not used the gloves or socks yet, but if I fell in a river again...

I carry spare spokes

one of our members has established that you can still ride with 8 broken spokes :o)
