Hi!
I'm currently getting a custom titanium 29er frame made by a firm in China. Don't really want to start any debate about whether I'm wasting my money, but hoping for some general advice on setting it up as I'm a bit of a noob at the technicals.
I've been riding a 26" Univega for years for fitness and fun, and although I'm about 90% on road, I like the sturdyness of a MTB as I'm fairly chunky (also moving to Wales soon!). Last couple of years had problems with my wrists and moving to a 29er for more upright position and easier rolling over bumps/drops (don't want suspension). I bought a Haro Mary XC on Ebay last year and enjoying it loads - really feel this is a step forward for me, but wanted to tweak Mary's geometry for a slightly more upright ride, hence the custom frame idea.
Enough waffle... I also want to try an IGH and found this amazing value Alfine 11 wheelset at Bikediscount.de:

The rims seem to be rated for tyres up to 50mm but I just bought some Schwalbe Big Apple 2.15 (wired) which I'm enjoying at the moment for a smooth ride on Mary. Question 1: am I dicing with death if I fit 'em to the Mavic A319 rims?
Question 2: I'm toying with the idea of trying to do it myself, but can anyone recommend a bikeshop around Nottingham that have experience with setting up Alfine hubs?
Cheers for any advice and sorry for rambling introduction!
