Recently I bought a Hardcoat, slickshift outer chainring to fit on my XT chainset. The ring was markedly thicker than it's Shimano counterpart (I put this down to the Hardcoat coating). In fact it was so thick that in the higher gears in the middle ring the chain was catching on the shifting pin of the Middleburn outer ring. I ended up getting rid of it.
I was wondering whether anyone has had experience of ordinary (non-hardcoat) Middleburn rings, do they still snag the chain or are they a normal thickness. Now that the price of Shimano products has sky rocketed Middleburn rings are actually at the cheaper end of the market and well worth considering.
