mate has bought a bike and hates the clicky free wheel thing going on with hope
she wants an alternative ...
whose free wheels are non clicky ( i'm tasked to sort it out...)
any advice gratefully received

shimano are pretty quiet, and ive never had one fail on me.

Shimano. I prefer them on my tourer although I have hope on most everything else.

Tell her she's wrong and GOI.

Shimano hubs have terrible freehubs - quiet
Hope and Chris King make great freehubs - noisy

But seriously, you could always try and find an old Shimano 'silent clutch' hub which are truly silent or a True Precision Stealth hub ( http://www.trueprecisioncomponents.com/tpc-products/mtb-rear-hub/).

Open free hub. Pack with grease.

Simples.

I too like silence on the bike. Its a higher evolutionary thing!
