I've seen the various options to convert, who's got any long term experience running non boost hubs in a boost frame and fork?
I've got a rather nice pair of Mango Chris King's that don't seem to be selling (on the classifieds), so rather than giving them away for peanuts, would rather re-use them on my new bike. MRP seem to do a "Better Boost" kit for the front, which seems properly engineered to suit said hub (rather than just 2 5mm axle spacers), but I can only see the VeloSolo spacer kit that would fit on the back. Anyone else running non boost King's in a Boost frame? What did you use to convert?
Re-dishing isn't an issue, what I don't want is small parts that will be easily lost should I have to remove one or both wheels to put the bike in the car to go and ride somewhere.
I have on both my bikes.
Set of DT XMC1200 based 240S hubs, the front wasn't boost so I use a Wolftooth adapter (means no need to space the disk out). It's been on there for over a year now.
Other bike I have some XM1501's, needed a rear boost adapter. With the added challenge of it being a centrelock. I use the Now8 adapter kit, which does have the little 3mm spacers which are meant to sit on the end caps. I roughed them up & the spacers & epoxy'd them on & they have stayed there since. Wheels come off regularly & they are no different to a normal hub.
Not aware what's available for King hubs, but I have been doing this with zero problems with the "new end cap and re-dish" type adapters front and rear in Hope hubs. There was a thread recently where someone claimed gluing or taping the separate spacers on avoided the faff, if you have to go down that route.
A few other companies do the separate spacer kits, including cheap no-name ebay jobs.
ETA crossed posts there with hobnob.
Did you have to re dish your wheel with theย Now8 adapter kit ?
I just run a spacer on one side and re dished my rims with King hubs.
Not caused any issues in over 12 months.
Nope, no re-dishing needed. Wheel stays central.
Cheers guys, thanks for the feedback.
A friend has just let me know he's now interested in my existing hubs, so might not need to space them now. Though if he pulls out, I'll just buy the problem solvers spacers and fit to my new bike I think and re-dish the rear wheel.
Did you epoxy the now8 spacers the endcaps or the frame?
