My friend has a 2012 Nomad with the 1.5" headtube. He used to have some RS forks on it with where a standard steerer tube but has just got some FOX 36 and they have a tapered steerer.
The headset he has now is a Syntace one and is semi-integrated i believe (Pic to confirm). Am I correct in thinking that he can keep the top of the headset what is on now and fit this lower:

You need an external bottom cup headset with a tapered fork this is the standard EC49/40, have a look at this guide http://chrisking.com/headsets/hds_inset click on the 49mm headtube guide.
It doesn't look like hope do one.
Still no clearer to me lol.
Losing the will to live trying to find a headset for this.

The one you have listed above sounds like it will do the job.
The head tube on a Nomad is designed with a diameter of 49mm so you can't fit a internal lower cup if running a tapered fork it needs to be external hence the EC in the lower cup spec and the 49 for the head tube diameter and 40 for the crown race on a tapered fork.

Yea that sounds like it will fit the head tube the problem is the one shown in orange in the photo looks like it comes with a crown race for a 1 1/8 fork not a tapered, where the black one looks like the correct crown race.
Might be an idea to check with CRC before ordering as it doesn't state in the description either way.
