My commuter seems to have developed a noisy front disc, when leaning the bike into a corner or leaning the bike under me when standing and pedalling I'm getting a noise similar to sharpening a knife.

I'm assuming something is flexing causing the disc to make contact briefly with a pad, but I'm struggling to work out what.

Set up is a carbon exotic fork, cheap Shimano Deore Mach disc wheel from Merlin, Shimano Deore calliper and a 203mm Shimano disc.

Anyone had anything similar, or have any ideas as to what the problem is? Disc too large for the fork?

Contact between the disc and the caliper?
Are those Exotic forks rated for 203mm discs, BTW, and why would you need something that size on a commuter?

Any play in the front hub bearings?

Perhaps stupid, but is the QR (or whatever fixing you have) done up tightly?

Are the pads / pistons returning all thw way?

Is your caliper and pistons centred?

Thanks for the questions, gave me a few things to look at. After further investigation it turns out The pistons weren't returning fully. A very thorough clean and normal service has been resumed.

Andy - I run a large disc on the commuter simply because it helps with interchangeability in the shed. Was handy being able to swap rotors between bikes to rule it out as a cause and I like knowing I have spares ready when needed.
