Anyone else had any problems? Posting on behalf of a mate who can't get them to inflate. Been using soapy water and an air compressor...
-edit- They're not UST tyres btw....
Not on 819's but mine went up eventually on ZTR355's
So they are tricky then? Any tips?...
I used a track pump and they went up.
Try and seat the bead as much as you can first
Cool, thanks mate! ๐
Yep. No problems here on 819's.
I seat the tyre first with an innertube in the tyre. Then remove the innnertube keeping the beading on one side seated. Inflate using a track pump with the valve core removed. Stick a bit of sealant in the tyre to help seal it whilst inflating.
about a week ago, after much sweating and puffing i finally managed to inflate my new non ust nobby nics (i had already used a tube inflated for a couple of days 1st) they have been holding air since then, but when i went to ride the bike yesterday i found they had deflated and left a nice little puddle of sealant. why have they suddenly deflated and will this be a common occurance. my previus experinece of ust tyres has been very good, am i going to have lots of issues mounting non ust to 819's or have i just been unucky?
any tips on make this current setup work!
2.2's fit mine fine (non-UST), but then I have a compressor
Looses a bit of air over the week, but that soon fixed.
2.25 nn went up on my 819s with a track pump no problem!
2.4NNs on Stans' Flow, on with a track pump, no hassle - the newer, tubeless-ready versions though, not UST
I had some non ust NN's lying around so I thought I would give them a go on some 819's. Went on easy enough with a compressor but took ages to seal at the bead and the whole carcass leaked a lot of sealant. Seemed fine on commuting runs, nice and light, but on first mtb ride the front burped on a rock, didn't even hit it hard, in fact it could be nasty if you were hammering it, because they lose air instantly. So decided to put tubes in for now. I'll go back to a proper ust tyre.
My Schwalbe experiences, on 819 and Stan's Arch
there are 3 types:
UST
Tubeless ready
bog standard
(I think)
UST Fat Alberts on 819's with track pump no problem
Tubeless ready NN on 819's or Arch with my mini compressor (not tried with track pump but think it would work) no problem
Evo Fat Alberts on 819(thought they were tubeless ready but they don't have tubeless ready written on them (On One cheapo ones) so now think they're bog standard) - won't go up even with my compressor. Have to take them to the local tyre depot and even then it's a struggle with their big fugg off compressor
Evo Fat Albert as above on Arch - no problem with my compressor, looks nice and tight so may also be okay with track pump but haven't tried
so in my view non tubeless ready or non UST Schwalbe's on 819's are a problem, Stan's seem to be easier
could be that they're the cheapo on one version that's causing the issue. it's a right pain in the backside that they hold pressure for 4/5 days and then suddenly they're flat. Doesn't install much confidence ๐
Obviously Stans rims are desighned with a different bead interlock than the 819's, and are therefore are designed to use non UST specific tyres i.e. standard ones.
819's are UST specific so yes it likely you will continue to have problems using a non UST or tubeless ready tyre, and on the subject of NN on 819's a friend had one roll of the rim at about 25mph downhill, lucky he escaped unscathed! I wouldn't have much confidence either!
