[#4745022]

I have the Shimano xtr 985 brakes and recently I noted that the front brake was losing power. I had to depress the lever all the way for the brake to bite. I put this down to wearing brake pads. I've just changed the pads but am still without power.

Does this mean they need bleeding? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

If they have lost power quickly IWould check for leaks. Then bleed.

Yup a bleed is the way to go. Modern brakes auto-adjust to take account of pad wear (although some seem to struggle a bit when getting near replacement time)

OP said he changed pads, led me to think fluid loos, air ingress so check then bleed

Just spent the last 5 mins pumping the brakes hard. Power appears to be improving.... No power left in my right index finger now...

Sounds like a dodgy seal...
Open bin
Insert brakes
Buy a decent set
Enjoy

cable ties levers to the bars, should allow air back into the reservoir on levers
