Mornin' all, I'm in the middle of replacing my grips to find the Mrs doesn't use hairspray, and therefore i'm at a loss.

Can anyone suggest a good substitute for sliding grips on and them sticking to the bars?

Cheers peeps!

WD40 has worked well for me in the past, as has GT85

plug the hole on the end with the palm of you hand and push it on with the other - it will create a positive pressure inside the bar and do little fatrs but should glide on ๐Ÿ™‚

WD40 - slidey at first, then keeps the grips stuck once it dries.

Depends heavily on the grip in question I find.

I use Damp Start silicon spray. Its used for sealing car ignition systems from moisture, but its great for sticking grips on!

The good thing about GT85 is that after a few re-fits it errodes the rubber into a super-sticky compound. Though I use lock-ons as it does less damage to the bars getting the grips off again.

Did a search in the end and used washing up liquid!

Went on ok. seem to have stuck well too.

See you later guys I'm off to try 'em out!

Why not just join the modern world and buy lock ons?

Renthal the motorcross company make a product called Renthal Grip Glue used on some dirt bikes, can be a bit to good sometimes though, would make sure you've got the cockpit set up exactly how you like it before using it.

I discovered the GT85/WD40 grip softening trick too, makes them expensive, but my odi-yeti lock ons are now ohhh soo soft (but dont last very long, hence expensive).

GT85 gives a more secure grip than the few lock-ons I've tried.

Just go buy a small can of hair spray and keep it in the tool box along with the bike lube, brake fluid, etc
