Going for a night ride tonight. Does anyone know what -8C does to li-ion battery runtime?

Aren't all battery run times reduced in the cold?

It will be shortened but no idea by how much...no permanent damage to the battery just the shortened runtime.

I was out on Monday night was -2c and my light was buzzing...thought it was the battery but was the head unit...I think the cold air and any moisture was hitting the light and evaporating.

Yeah, I know they'll be shortened, just no idea if -8C is cold as far as the battery is concerned. I'll have a google...

My L&M Seca light was lasting well over the 2.5 hours we were out. Mate had the DX torch and that was also lasting very well...I think anything below 2C is considered cold for a battery...but I can't recall where I read that so don't believe it...

My Dealextreme torch was fine last night (for a 2.5 hour ride home, on one battery, although on low & medium at points). I'd be more worried about camelbak tubes freezing up - I had no drinking water after about half an hour's riding.

Was out in a DX equipped -10 (might even have been colder as it was -13 at 08:00 this morning) and reckon I lost about 20% burn time but that's with a brand new battery so a couple of re charges might have got me a bit more.

DX et al are more vulnerable than lights with remote battery units due to windchill.

TBH I was more worried about how long my feet would last than I was about the lights - the low temps aren't really an issue at present - with all this snow around = mucho reflectivity ๐Ÿ˜‰
