[Closed] Night lights - suggestions?

[#3397763]

Went out this week for my first night ride off-road, what an experience... I was using my Hope 1 LED light that I use for commuting (which is really awesome for £70) but know there are better lights out there. Something helmet mounted would be good as 90 degree turns are hard work when the light is pointing the way the bike is!

So, anyone got any suggestions for a good light for XC night rides, with budget in mind...

Well, I've no idea what your budget is, but....

Also check out WMB issue 129, page 53.

Oh, and theres another good light guy in these parts.
Troutie, look him up too.

My budget is probably around the £150 mark, sorry, forgot to put that in

Magicshine 2 XML but maybe wait for some people to give feedback before commiting, depends if you want max output for £150 or good reliability and spares back up, and use the hope for helmet light.

With £150 to spend I'd get a Magicshine MJ-872 for £90 or thereabouts, with a helmet mount, and spend the rest on carrots. A much more effective setup than 2 XMLs in my experience. (on paper it looks like a bar-mounted flood, but I've found it best on the head as it gives quite a natural field of vision)

Thanks for your replies. I'm definitely looking for reliability - the Hope is great but when it's out of juice, it's straight out. Not ideal mid-ride, and on full whack it only runs for about 90 mins.
