hi guys
im looking to buy some lights so that i can do some mountain biking night rides.
however im on a tight budget of basically £60, im not fussed if u recomend a copy or anything just as long as its a decent night light with a decent amount of lumens.
I want one for the handle bars as i use a head torch on y helmet...for now!
cheers guys!

£60 is lots really - assuming you're happy with chinese copies. Lots and lots on here use them - maybe wont last you years and years but still get you out at night.

Search "magicshine" on here. Tons of results.

#Also do extra seaches for "bastid" - older model now but really good value (poss around £35), or pushing your budget (for the bars) mj-872.

MJ-872 is a great helmet light btw- I tried mine on the bars with a spotlight on the head, but soon discovered I was better off with just the MJ on the helmet and no second light. I still have one as a backup but that's all.

Pers'nally, I really dislike the single-XML DX-style lights, they're very bright and very spotlighty, which is pretty poor for offroad riding. The old P7 (original bastid) is a lot less bright but it's a better light despite that IMO.

Just to be clear - that one Iain links to is a "magicshine bastid". There are lots of variants now: the key thing at the budget end is "SSC-P7". Some have better P7's - other better batteries - but dont get too fussed on detail starting out. Buy a light. Go out at night. Decide if you're addicted.

Or maybe just are doing this occasionally. That'll decide what happens next. But either way - even in a big mtb group - that DX linked one is more than enough to keep up and have a blast.

Dont use it on the road though. It dazzles drivers.

And Northwind - I agree - avoiding a single xml as your first bar light. I wasnt aware that xml's were now being called bastid's : I thought that was for P7's.

But muke has added a helpful set of links above- cheers!
