Ideally I want some Fox 36 160mm Talas for my 2008 Spesh Enduro S-Works - but don't fancy paying over £900

What's the general consensus on a decent alternative?

Cheers

Lyrik? 730 Euro here is a fair chunk less. Or the X-Fusion Vengeance DLA

RS every bit as good as Fox, IMO (if not better) and X-Fusion stuff getting great reviews.

Lyriks, had a pair on my old Ellsworth moment when I couldn't find a set of 36s at a decent price and they were faultless. Stiff, plush and a great damper in the black box motion control.

X-Fusion forks are getting a big look in on my not-so-local LBS demo bikes at the moment, and you don't generally put gash forks on bikes such as the Pivot Mach 5.7 Carbon...

Have a look at the Slant RL2 DLA. Almost half the cost of the 36 Talas.

I have Lyrik DPA on my Enduro Evo and they are the best forks I have ever used and that includes the current model 36 float. The lyriks are so smooth and so adjustable its amazing.

However if I was buying new now I would be seriously considering either some X-Fusion Vengance or Slants depending on what your coming from and how you ride. I'm guessing you still have the E150s so you will be used to stiff forks, so the Vengance will be the best choice.

lyrics from the classifieds. £2-300 seems to be the going rate

Do you need the travel adjust? If you don't, there are more options

I've converted my 160 talas into floats. Best thing for them, thought I'd die without talas but really don't need it, the floats sit well into their travel anyway

Current Zocchi 55?

or 66 if you're going second hand. Loads around, plush, cost is low.

+1 for the marzocchi 55 forks but if you really have your heart set in some fox 36's then have a look at this pair...

Just been for a measure and my headtube alone is 160mm, so with headset, spacers and stem, I'm gonna be looking at around 240-250mm.

Looks like new is going to be the route I go down and reading very good things about the Vengeance.

Cheers anyways

Dunno - I have a feeling they are last years, but Freeborn are listing them as 2013. The fact that they are reduced from rrp would suggest 2012.

Don't think there are much in the way of changes though - read that 2014 will have a gold (coloured) coating to the stanchions.

Ordered these

Even the URL states 2012, even though the page description is 2013 - we will see!

Oh yeah - went for white in the end for my black S-Works. Think they look a bit better than the black in this fork.

You do realise they are 2nd hand, don't you?

I think Vans are pretty bombproof, but heavy and no travel adjust.

Not sure about that site - the Vans look in good nick, but have you seen the state of the stanchions on the Marz 66's they are flogging?

ahh. the vans are second hand, I didn't realise that. still, that actually makes me feel better about them, at least they aren't too good to be true.

My Lyrik DPA are currently in the shop for a service, while they are I am using a set of Vans on loan, I am really impressed with them. They dont seem much heavier if at all than the Lyriks and they seem to give a whole load more grip

Yeah, my current E150 SL's are white so I fancied going a bit stealthier, but sure they'll look good

Marz 55 RC3 evo Ti.

Maintenance free. 3 year warranty. So smooth you'll want to find some extra roots and rocks to ride over all the time.

Or 44s are a touch lighter - but hard to come by now.

I have the 44s on my SB66 and absolutely love them.

The Marz 55 evo may be a great fork but kinda defeats the purpose of this thread - costs almost as much as the Fox 36 talas

I've just switched from my X-fusion vengeance RC's to some Future Shock E160TA's.
Slight drop in stiffness, but saving 1lb in weight and I've now fully tuned them for my weight and riding style so feeling really good.

P.s. This probably doesn't help you though as they only come in tapered steerer, and specialized say they don't fit any other frame that their Carbon ones......
But they've fitted nicely on my Scott Ransom now 🙂 .

I don't know about the next best, but either a DP Air Lyrik (light) or a u-turn (coiley) would be better than a TALAS 36

Do you actually need the height adjust on an enduro? Float and Van are great forks but TALAS is always a nasty compromise.
