Looks interesting but, like all xtracycle stuff now, it's not cheap.

20" back wheel to reduce load height is the main innovation.

They show it being carried "easily", so the listed 65lb can't be correct. I think that might be the electric version. That's much heavier than our xtracycle converted Clockwork Orange was (about 36lb).

My boys have outgrown the 'x' now, but if I had a garage I would probably have kept it as a family picnic/cargo bike.

I think I'd still rather have a Big Dummy though, as it seems more of a do-anything bike than this.

no idea how much they cost but my wallet is wincing anyway.

The freeradical I think is still the best value solution as it "just works" although I can see where they are trying to go with the whole purposefully designed "best cargo" concept.

But most of us can rustle together a donor frame and bits to make our own for a more modest outlay.

Yes, I really loved ours, but it's now sat in the shed waiting to be packaged, photographed and sold.

We managed a full carless month ferrying the boys to school, doing the weekly shop, etc with no problems. But my best memories are taking it to Delamere packed with 2 full picnics, stove, tarp, etc and using it as a sag wagon for our youngest.

How close is the rear derailleur to the ground? Can't be clever on a 20" wheel.

Alex - what is you you have? The xtracycle/outriggers?

Might be keen on buying if it's the right thing!

Send me pics of what you've got so far, if you can 🙂

I looked at the Xtracycle but it worked out quite expensive. I'd all but decided it was the way to go when bikemnonger charlie reduced this to £600... 🙂

We love it. Second car rarely gets used these days. I leave it packed up with wellies & waterproofs. The kids actually prefer the Ute, even if its raining.

All I have is photos of us using it at the moment. You can see the setup though.
I was thinking of selling the kit, footsies, stoker bars, stem all together (because the bars were hard to source). Also available are the bar ends that we used as high footsies.

At least you can see the logo on one of these which shows the model.

The 20" wheel is hardly an "innovation" 🙂

I did a full sus 20" rear wheel kiddy bike that was featured on here in 2007 (pre STW hacking so guess the page does not exist any more). Rear mech near the ground was never a problem off road. The only pics I can find just now are here:- http://loslobos06.blogspot.co.uk/2008/01/uk-lobos.html

There used to be a bike similar to the new Xtracycle one (26" front and 20" rear) a couple of years ago - not sure if Practical Cycles used to sell them (??).

And there are already plenty of 20" wheel cargo bikes knocking around.

Jr's 20" islabike has it's mech quite close to the ground, but because its so close to the centre plane of the wheel youd have to be really unlucky to clip it.

I hadn't decided DrP - My usual rule of thumb is 60% of RRP (plus a bit for the extras), but I haven't even looked at what that is!
