[#10901299]

So managed to crack the alloy rear rim on my bontrager line comp 30 over the weekend. Rim is still rideable, but would rather replace sooner rather than later.

So my options were:

A: Replace the rims with something like Dt Ex571 rims as the bontrager hubs are decent but are 28h, so rim choice is limited.

B: New alloy wheelset such as the Hunt trail/enduro wheels. Have estimated the costs and won't be much more than getting the bike shop to lace new rims to existing hubs.

C: Go all out and get carbon wheelset such as sixth element, bontrager line pro, hunt carbon etc. Not sure if huge jump in cost will be worth it though?

All opinions welcome.

Are 28H rims that rare? I was looking for some 36H the other day, 28 & 32 seemed to be the most common ones.

How about a decent light 28h rim with 30mm internal for £20?

Edit.... my bad, its 30mm outer, not inner.

I like my Mavic deemax 650 wheelset. Not tried carbon yet but will at some point

If the hubs are ok I’d be tempted to bang some DT Swiss rims on them. Think you mean either EX511 or EX471 depending on the width you want.

A second hand rear wheel off here or eBay or whatever? You should get a Hope hub and a decent alloy rim for £100

DT rim if you want to keep hubs, or DT wheels if you want a better wheelset.

If you’re cracking alloy rims I’d avoid carbon and go for top quality alloy like EX/XM1501s.

Thanks for the suggestions. Think I'll probably just get the ex511 rims built up onto the existing hubs by the lbs, since it seems to be the most cost effective option.

I'm getting ex 511 built on 350 hubs by fitwheels.eu
Not received them yet but so far communication has been excellent!

Found the link through this forum for a chap called Lukasz
