My rather old Bontrager RXL mtb shoes have delaminated, causing the upper to part company with the very stiff carbon sole. Not complainimg as they are several years old and have been used lots.
I do like a stiff sole for my xc ride and gravel bike, so what are a current good option? Anyone got any experience or recommendations?
Thanks
I'm a massive fan of my shimano XC7's - they are good and stiff, comfortable, they have grippy michelin rubber on the soles and the upper has a slight plasticcy coating so water/mud runs off to a certain extent. Would buy again in an instant.
Giro VR90s - stiffer than a stiff thing
ace, thanks. i will check them out
I use S-Works XC for that. Comfy, stiff, light.
I have some bontrqnger xxx in the classified . Bontragers lightest and stiffest shoe. Size 44
Another vote for Shimano XC7 here
I have some no fear jobs from sports direct. They are great. They were £15. There are lots in there with very stiff soles for not much money.
S-works XC. Comfy as a slipper, stiffer than an Amsterdam window cleaner
I’m another happy xc7 owner 🙂
Bont shoes. Heat mouldable so comfortable but super stiff and good prices available if you look around

Possible wrong end of the stick there chap.
I know that Sidi are not cheap, but they are light, stiff, tough as old boots and comfortable - I wore a pair for over 30 days and did loads of hike a bike too. If you can still get a pair of Eagle 6's with velcro tabs and the push through ratchet rather than the twisty buckle, they will last ages. I've still got a pair form 2011 TD race - these are only ride to the pub shoes now, but they are still alive!
How have I got the wrong end of the stick? Is the stick over priced and condescending?
And another for XC7 too. Stiff enough but still comfortable 🙂

I bet I could bend the soles with my hands. Can't do that with a proper pair of shoes.
