Got a new headset to fit on the clown bike as the current one is goosed - do I need to use new star nut or just use the current one in the steerer?

if you are keeping the steerer the same length then just use the existing one. Will probably cause more problems trying to fit a new one where there has been one.

There's no reason at all to replace the current one, and it's a right faff to do that anyway. Star just are just about the only real standard thing on MTBs these days!

WTF are you on about PP? there are already 2 different sizes of SFN (alloy or steel steerers) and more than one steerer size to choose from.

Yeh, but no one uses a steel forks except for rigid fork attention whores and oversize steerer tubes are for fat boys in storm trooper gear who would know how to fix a bike if their chubby little lives depended upon it. for all "Normal" folks there is only 1 standard

plenty "normal" folk run steel steerers!
Insight into your narrow minded little world is frankly astounding!
