I'm getting a new kcnc seat post - my current one is a 350mm but I have it slid out onto number 1.
this only leaves around 50mm inside the seat post tube.
should I get a 400mm seat post? does only having a small amount of the seat tube inside compromise the strength in anyway?

Yes and yes. You have 300mm sticking out your frame?
