Got an 18" raw frame coming.

Going for a bit more of trail build than the one above.

20mm maxle 120mm Reba's from On One (bargain).
Angleset to kick out front slightly
Hope Pro II hubs with DT Swiss rims.
Currently running Bontrager Mud X, but will probably go for old faithful Nobby Nics set up tubeless.
Easton Haven 711mm bar.
New XT brakes from the classifieds
Thomson stem and seatpost.
Old 9 speed XT cranks (aiming for black 10 speed XT when classifieds have some)

Looking forward to the weekend..

I got a Lurcher a few months ago. It was a pre production one they had early. I asked for it with a Alfine 11 spd ready for winter. Just in from riding it now! 🙂

Now im not particularly up-to-date with anglesets but im not sure if a Tapered fork in a tapered frame is going to allow you to get any 'slack' on.

I have the cheap tapered on-one rebas in a salsa and would like to slacken it off a little, so if it can be done id like to know.

Hi All

Just joined the forum, should be getting my Super Raw 16" Scandal 29er Monday or Tuesday next week
This will be my first build. Got all the bits now apart from shifters and front derailler just waiting for the frame. Going for a double xt crank set 38-26 and 10 speed cassete 11-36 does anyone know if there is a specific 2x10 shifter set or do you use a treble and just set the derailler limit, thinking of going slx or xt, and what front derailler will fit I think I need bottom pull or dual pull does the swing make a diffrence, top or bottom. Looking at a dual pull Shimano XT Front Mech Top Swing 10sp M785. Any help would be very much welcome

Ooh - not available to the general public yet? I was looking for one when I was putting my order in but had to go with an "ordinary" headset.

Mind you, it would appear that the Raw 16" is still not available to fit it to???

Thanks for that Brant, i noticed you put something on your Shedfire website about that and thought it might be something I wanted play around with in the future especially when i head out to the Alps, or times when the bike is going to spend most of it's time pointing downwards.

Are they going to be made available in the future via On-One, i notice you have a 1 1/8 version on there?

Maybe this evening, confirmation email to state that it has been delivered and a mate turning up with beer and curry to try and get it built up asap this evening ready for a ride first thing tomorrow morning.

Will post a pic up when finished.

hi to this forum.

My Scandal is due tomorrow - first 29er.

quick question - fitting xt 9 speed bottom bracket - will i need to face the frames bottom bracket for a perfect fit or is the frame fine as it is?

got the wheels and forks, need to get a tapered headset - any suggestions without spending too much.

thanking you in advance for your advice

dcook - you won't need to get the BB shell or headtube faced, they're factory done. As for the headset On-ones own one seems pretty good

Built up this evening but IPhone photo in dark is terrible, must admit lovely looking frame, tapered head and curved seat tube are great, but whoever designed where the cable stops are and the brake line holders should be shot, the front one under the top tube is far to close to the head tube and for my old original scandium Scandal to have stops for continuous gable routing but the new frame to not allow it, is a huge step back, the routing under the downtube is like something from an 80's bike , plus the front mech clamps over the bottom bottle cage hole. It is really like someone with sense has designed a good frame and got the Taiwanese YTS lad in randomly stick on the cable stops.

Why give bigger tyre clearance to allow room for bigger tyres and mud, then get rid of the ability to run continuous cable outers?

I don't have continuous outers on any bike but I've yet to have a major problem because of that.

The front mech issue is mentioned on the On One website - you need to get the model with the low mount -

I'm going to see how mine works out with my existing (high mount) mech. Would a couple of small spacers on the bottle cage bolts not resolve the issue?

dcook. Two previous Scandals have needed serious facing on the bb. I'll definitely be getting mine done again on the new one. Guess it's one of the ways they save money to keep the for down....

my slot dropout (first no scandium batch) is exactly as you describe.

front mech over the bottle cage bolts too. 🙄 you can make it work with cage spacers and move the mech up - but the shifting is shocking.

My 19.5 black and is weighing in at 3 lb 15oz.

The front top brake cable stop does look tight.

Keeping the packaging handy if the mech doesn't fit.

Go direct to Works Components if On One don't have them, they'll sort you out- very good company to deal with. (got 2 of their headsets in my bikes). Surprisingly, not cheaper to buy from On One either.

Got mine built up now, no pics yet, very pleased with it, slightly disappointed with the cable and hose routing but i suspect i'll learn to live with it. Front mech was a pain though, used a normal high clamp and had to put it over the lower bottle cage mount, couldn't fit it parallel with the chain rings either other wise it rubbed on the rear tyre, so had put it slightly off centre, seems to be just about working, but not exactly ideal.

I seem to be havin same problem with front mech, seems they have designed frame to have good rear tyre clearance then the mech itself does not allow it which is counter productive.

Spoils what otherwise is a great frame

Double specific mechs tend to have smaller cages, I have an xtr one and the cage is really short giving plenty of clearance with big tyres on a 29er.

Looking forward to seeing pics of built up bikes, however all these comments on the over-speccing of cable/hose guides has kinda put me off getting a frame.
Still trying to make my mind up between Scandal/El Mariachi or the forthcoming Kinesis 29er.
Come on, get the pics up peeps 😛

A well thought out frame then! - designed for singlespeed or 1x10 or badly thought out?
