[#2166923]

Evening All,

I'm after a new pair of road wheels, currently running with Alex S500's on the Allez and would like to upgrade them (Xmas prezzie) to something stronger and possibly all round better. Been looking but no the wiser really.

Ideas please upto around 150 quid for a pair, yeah I know it's probably not a lot to spend but my main passion is the Mtb

TIA

Handbuilt Mavic Open Pros on 105 hubs, but not sure you would be able to get those for £150.

In terms of factory wheels I rate the Fulcrum Racing 5's for the money (but £180), but I am light on wheels. Some people have posted on here in the past about hub/freewheel reliability.

Maybe s/h or stretch to just a little bit more. s/h not great for Xmas pressie.

I have a set of Mavic Kysirium that I bought for last years Lands End to John O Groats (cost me £235). They are fantastic wheels, stong but light-whilst the others were all using my spare wheels cause they aere breaking spokes I was going straight and true. they are flat bladed jobbies and the rims are unmarked (but on the bike and dirty at the moment and are fitted with a 11-24 cassette I think its 24).
May be open to an offer on them as I am going to be getting rid of the roadbike as its just sat on the hanger for months.

The price has gone up a few pounds since I got mine so are over your budget but the Pro Lite Bracciano's can't be beaten for the money.
If you can't afford that go for handbuilt (inc secondhand) as imo most of the cheaper factory wheels are all about looks rather than quality.

I was just about to post that if you can get a 2nd hand pair of Ksyriums, that'll be money well spent. Have a chat with Suggsey up there ^^ - the Ksyrium Elites on my roadbike are superb, and I'm very pleased with them. Full stop.

(5% commission please Suggsey!) 🙂

They are stonking wheels particualrly for big riders, I got them form Vaughans in kenilworth after some discussions about what I would be doing with them etc etc.

I got some of those ^^^ Braccianos - very pleased.
Mavic Aksiums are heavier but can take abuse.

Suggsey - I'm interested but can I have some more details on which model etc... I'm in Cheshire so could do with a posted price rather than making an offer.

Cheers

Got say those mentioned do look nice. If you are a light rider then go for the lightest, if you are a heavy rider or your local roads are shockingly poor ..........

They are Mavic Kysirium Equipe, 20 spoke rear 18 front (flat bladed spokes and sure they came with spares which I have stashed somewhere really safe.

THESE ARE CHEAPER THAN I WOULD HAVE BEEN SELLING JUST THE RIMS AND ONLY HAVE A FEW MINUTES LEFT- Sorry for shouting and by the way I have absolutely no connection to the ebayer concerned its just they are a bloody bargain!

At 80kg I'd not say I was heavy but the roads aren't much cop, more like cobbles in places. I'll have a word with the Mrs as it's her gift so not to sure how she'd feel about s/h and I think she might be looking at the end of the month for a purchase anyway.

Thanks for the input everyone

Okay no problems only made the offer on the spur of the moment as i have been umming and arrghing about getting shot of the bike as its not being ridden and I still have the originaql hoops that I had rebuilt as they were shedding spokes-beware of Alex Rims.......

Suggsey - I'm not 100% in a position to buy just yet and as your umming and arrghing about getting rid anyway can I have first refusal if you do decide to let them go. E-mail in profile as more likely to pick that up and will either take them posted or poss meet up.

Cheers
Carl
