Ok so last night as I rolled back to the car I got a puncture. My first one in 3 years tubeless so I really cant complain. It hissed and then sealed for the short journey home. However I need to get this swapped out as mentally ill never be happy riding it anymore.

Soo it was a 2.35 (26”) hans dampf trailstar. Ive got a pacestar in the garage that ill swap it out for but if im honest I don’t like it half as much as the trailstar one. Its faster on the road but not half as good over wet rocks and roots (which I like riding) It will be pairing another HD 650b on the front in trailstar.

Has anyone got the new nobby nics? How do these compare to the HD? In the volume / grip department?
Any other suggestions? Needs to be good on wet rocks. I cant bring myself to buy maxxis.

Cheers

You'll never be happy riding a tyre which had a puncture and sealed ok? Really?
I mean REALLY?

I'd keep riding your existing tyre instead of spend what'll nowadays be getting on for almost a thousand pounds or however much it is for a bicycle tyre.

yes really.

thing is for me. i generally ride in a group and im generally pushing 100% as im so unfit (and still at the back)

to have something thats not working correctly means when im knackered the lst thing i need is fixing something. I also think its a bit of a kick in the nuts for the other guys and gals im riding with. so im happy to spend 50 quid on some rubber to try and make myself and others happy.

If you`re that bothered get a tubeless repair kit and repair the tyre, I had to repair 4 holes in mine before I made it tubeless, no problems so far

+1 for buying a tubeless repair kit. Unless you're just looking for a reason to swap the tyre out for something different.

But why do you want to swap the tyre out if its sealed.? It wont go there again. Surely you just pump it up a bit and continue using it?
Don't sound like a nice bunch of mates if they won't wait whilst you sort an issue with your bike.

oh of course they will wait. But i feel bad.

Its also a good excuse to try something else 🙂

considering the new nobby nic, any experience of it?

if you're worried take it off and patch if from the inside, refit with fresh sealant. I have seen the odd* "plug" detach but proper patches are fine, I've patched a few, no subsequent issues.

*still pretty rare

Just use the pacestar one, it'll make it easier to keep up with the others.

Obvious answer is a Thunder Burt - you'll be so far ahead of the others you'll have time to stop and fix it before they get there 😀

The old Nobby Nics were terrible, the new ones are a bit less terrible.
I've found that they tend to be too delicate and pumping them up enough that they don't wallow and/good over in corners made them lose all traction as too hard. Others like them though.

Personally I'm a Maxxis Minion DHF fan. To quote Graves 'With Maxxis, you just run the Minion and you just call it good.' Jared Gaves bike check

And this was after he'd switched to bring sponsored by Specialised tyres.
