New pair of forks ordered, how long would you wait?

Ordered a pair of 2022 Fox Factory forks online on 28th October, exactly the model I was after - travel, colour, offset, non remote etc. and they were 30% off RRP which was a great price. When I ordered the retailer didnt have them in stock but they were available in 8-10 days from distributor according to the retailer website.

I therefore placed order, paid and as of today am still waiting for the forks to arrive. Latest update is that the forks will arrive with retailer on 30th December(seems an unlikely date considering the holidays!?!). The 30% off RRP was the best price I could find so am willing to give some slack but how long would STWers bother waiting for?

Also now slightly concerned that Fox UK distro are saying similar forks are next in from June 2023 onwards...

Depends how much I needed it, what I could ride in the meantime and how much extra it would cost to get it from somewhere else.

I think this is one only you can decide.

Cancel the order and find some other forks

I'm probably not the best person to ask, as I've waited multiple years for stuff, but if it's an issue wait till the deadline and if they don't show up, cancel.

A couple more delays and the 2024 model will be out 😁

The distributor is Silverfish in this case if they’re genuine UK stock, if they’re showing a long lead time, then it’s going to be a long lead time.

I ordered a new nail gun for work before lockdown at a good price that subsequently turned out to not be in stock, they clearly just ordered from the UK agent, who hadn’t got any either and it just went on back order. I held on, as like you the price was good, but the dates just kept going back and back and back, after 9 months it asked them for a refund.

Have you spoken to the retailer?

Assuming it's UK based as you mention the UK distributor, so give them a bell and clarify your concern?

Based on what you've said I'd given them till about the the 11/12th of Jan. If they arrive with them on the 30th they won't be shipped till New Year. And it may take a week for courier to clear the Xmas backlog.

The best bet, as I'm sure you know, is to ring the shop and ask how long they expect it to be, and what the delay is. If it's a distributor issue, check with them after. No point waiting to save 30% if they will never come in when another shop might have them sat on a shelf for a little more.

Yeah, makes it a bit of a lottery that. Why are they selling stuff they haven't got in stock? I hate that with online sellers and would've cancelled straight away myself.

Have you spoken to the retailer?

What is the point unless they allow you to record the conversation?
They already lied... they will continue to lie just get your money back and order some different forks before you're getting last years model

Bit tinfoil hat mate.

The timing they had from the distributor was probably wrong.

An item is either in stock or not.

Companies like Tredz are just selling speculatively to stop you buying elsewhere.
Even after you order and it goes past the time they are still selling the item with "in stock at supplier" even though they know it isn't.

The Tredz website currently (just checked) shows several items "in stock with supplier" that the supplier is saying no new stock till May 2023.

It wasn’t in stock. Any retailer showing expected timescales to get something that’s currently out of stock is likely to be wrong on occasion (and in recent crazy years probably more often wrong than correct).

Need something quick? Only order from a retailer that has it in stock.

kelvin

It wasn’t in stock.

But they said it was at the supplier... I'm logged in to zyro b2b right now and Tredz are showing items "in stock with supplier" or "Available with supplier Dispatched in 9-15 working days" that are clearly marked as "Due in w/c 05/05/2023" on the b2b site.

That would be for orders placed now. Tredz may well have products on backorder that will be due in an earlier shipment. Or they may not have 🙂

simondbarnes

Or they may not have

Problem is they don't differentiate ....
I know I've bought stuff before that's non critical (stuff for spares box) and they have maintained the 8-10d for a couple of months...

Nothing in the bike industry is really "professional" (compared to say ordering bearings) so CRC/Wiggle etc. all have their foibles but in terms of stock Tredz seems to take it to another level....

OP hasn't mentioned the company btw... I'm just guessing because this sounds like my experience with them.

I ordered a set of pike ultimates in February 21 they still hadn't arrived in April 22 when I cancelled the order because I'd sold the bike they were going on

That was fortunate! If that was me, I'd probably forget to cancel an order that late and end up with a product I don't need...

That was my first thought after reading the OP! Still have nightmares about my hope brakes I ordered through them! 😂 Never again!

Cancel move on. I ordered a cassette that was in stock but only a few left. Suddenly after order non but 8-10 days from distributor.
Got the same it'll be 12-14days email several times. Let it run 4 months as I wasn't in a hurry then went with a reply saying that the next deadline would be the final one after that just cancelled and got my money back. Ordered from Germany was cheaper and arrived within the week.

Still without the forks but minor update is that Silverfish now have the model back in again as of yesterday. Maybe the 30th December arrival with the retailer is now a genuine possibility...

Bought a couple of things from Biketart last night - everything I looked at said
"In stock with supplier
Despatched in 2-3 Days"
Never noticed an issue with them before, so will see.

Well, well, well. Probably only right and proper to report good news not just moan when things go wrong.

In a rather sudden turn of events (in a good way), my new Fox forks arrived in the post yesterday. The 30% off RRP 22/23 Fox fork purchase turned out well in the end!

Cancel and move on, find them in stock somewhere else. I would be buying from TF/Jtech as they will take them apart and make sure all is good, rather than the lottery which is the factory build, no grease/too much, wrong bushing fit, etc.
