that is a challenge on a 6″ travel bike.

is that not the point?

I can see the attraction of pounding your way down Revs or Fort Bill or whatever at the fastest speed money can buy, keeping up with the Joneses on bike performance.

But a big ol' day out in the Lakes?

The eternal question..... For some riders "fun" = "being challenged technically and picking my way down something touch and go", for some it's "cleaning a techy climb", for others still it's "finding maximum speed through a section of trail". I fall into the latter, it's very much about fun = fast. I **can** ride a tech DH section on an underbiked basis but it does absolutely nothing for me, whereas absolutely flying through that same section is a massive buzz.

Plus of course factor lots of people want one bike for everything, and (like me) are more than happy to be "overbiked" (jesus I hate that ****ing phrase though) on blander, flatter rides, or hunt out features on tjose rides to spice things up a bit 👍👍

Trouble with the *overbiked crowd for me is they're just making things harder both technically and fitness for themselves losing out on fun. They might be having fun, but so sure there's more fun in it for them on the appropriate bike for what they actually ride.

*Not much experience, so skill/strength isn't there to tell the bike what to do so looking lost in all that bike. Also predominantly riding very tame stuff nervously. Totally unrealistic about what they actually ride. Not that fit.

A 160-180 bike under a strong, fit, competent rider who needs a one bike solution for trail riding and uplifts, seems like a reasonable solution.

I can think of a couple of 6" plus travel bikes that have been great for big lakes and peaks days.A decent 160mm travel bike these days will be good enough for Fort Bill or an all day pedal. I have to say the Giga looks ace but the Mega that Elliot and Ant are ride seems a better option. And im sure Rockgardz can do something to stop the worry over that MASSIVE down tube. plus an old innertube never hurt if its being ridden down the Beast none stop

I’m not sure if anyone has seen this, but a bit of digging has revealed some more details.

It seems to be carbon only, 180mm as 650b, 170mm as 29er. Both versions use 38mm 180mm travel forks. Otherwise specs are very similar to the 2021 Megas.

No mullet option that I can see.

Straying a bit off topic here.. But why do people get worked up if others choose to be, in their eyes, "over-biked"? What the hell does it matter if a complete stranger is riding a bike with, theoretically, 20mm too much travel for a trail centre?

Because they’re doofuses.

I know someone who can ride Ark at Ee at Wind Hill (black trail with some decent sized doubles and step downs) on a gravel bike. By the logic of the you’re over biked club we should all be able to do this, as it’s possible, so even an XC hardtail is over biked.
