Looking for a new HT - might be a decent time with clearances etc! Don't mind 2nd hand - been looking at a few Whyte 905s but they are currently all too far away and are local pick up only.

The bike is for more faster trial riding, up over the south downs with the odd bit of red routes when I fancy, nothing major. Just needs to fit well (5ft 11) and go up and down and along well!

It needs to climb well and a dropper is preffered or at leats routing for an internal one.

Any recomendations out there? 650b/29er would be preference.

Just been in touch with someone selling a Nukeproof Scout 275 Race 2017 for £850 in as new condition.

Anyone ridden/got one? How do they size up?

Whyte 629 sounds ideal. I had one for a while, loved it. No dropper but it has stealth routing so you can upgrade in time, or maybe negotiate a bargain at the time of purchase!

I have a Scott 710 (the original limited run one from 2013 full HMX frame) in mint condition. Upgraded with some XTR bits. Based in Worthing if you fancy a look. Could be persuaded to let it go for £1000. Don't think STW does PM so here is my email

johnburton*insetonline*co*uk (*=@)

Hope I am not breaking any rules with this post! I am same height btw and it is a Large

Oh link to a review: http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/category/bikes/mountain-bikes/hardtail/product/review-scott-scale-710-13-47370/

Ryder i wouldn't worry, un-stealthy, stealth ads are part of what what makes STW great 😀

Can be had in both 27.5 or 29er, few folks got em' and rate them.

That Marin looks perfect. Any Marin size guides about?

Rutland do not have the 29er in 19" and it seems not many places do!

The 27.5 version is in stock though.

Im presuming I need a 19" anyway - hard to find info!

I can vouch for the Marin

I got one from Rutland and it's a great bike with an old school vibe.

Very good price

I'm another of the Nail Trail owners.

I'm 6' and 33" inside leg, went large in the 27.5 as they had sold out of 29.

Brilliant spec of fork, wideish light wheels, dropper, 1x11 slx...

The tyres are not great, I'm buying a new set (I need something better in the mud), the brakes look basic, but work really well.

I'm really liking it...

Is the large the 19"? How's the stand over?

Don't mind 2nd hand - been looking at a few Whyte 905s but they are currently all too far away and are local pick up only.

I recently did a build based around a mint 2017 901 frame that I found on eBay. Upgraded the headset, brakes and forks to 140mm Yari and it's an awesome bit of kit for the money. Reckon I paid IRO £750 for all the bits and have a v sorted aggressive HT.

There are some epic yet cheap frames out there just waiting to be adopted on a self-build.

EDIT: all my bikes have been XL and this summer finding stock of anything I wanted was futile, hence 'having' to go the secondhand route.

Yes, 19"/large

Standover is ok - I've the post 'up' about 5-6cm, so when 'dropped' it's an easy feet on floor with bent knees. Toptube is then the saddle +5cm lower.

It's not as low as my old Sanderson, or the Trek I sat on though.

As scandal42 says, it does have a touch of the old school about it - and that's not a bad thing imo. It's not as extreme a geometry and shape as some, yet still a trail bike not a twitchy xc machine.

I've an On One 45650b in the For Sale forum that may be of use to you. I'm 5'9 and feel theres plenty room on the medium frame. Under budget to fund a dropper too.
Let me know.

Might up my budget on this one now - just to see whats what!

The Marin is still an option - but not sure I like the look of it (which I know shouldnt be an issue!).

Ryder's scott still look like a nice option, but need to arrange to go and see that one!

Also saw a Genesis Tarn 20 2017 which looks nice for a bit of steel plus bike fun!

I’ve got a Vitus Sentier VRS there less than £900 on CRC at the mo so just about £800 with a BC discount code. £150 for a brand x dropper and you’re good to go.

Do the Vitus have routing for a stealth dropper out of interest?

Yep, in at the head tube, out at the bottom of the downtube, round the BB and in and up the seat tube.

The VRX is down to about £1200 now too, that is a bargain if you're upping the budget.

Bird do a couple of hardtails - although it looks like they start at £1288 for a 1x11 Sram NX build with Rockshox Yari / dt Swiss e1900 wheels.

https://www.bird.bike/product/zero-tr-nx/#configuration

I've got one of their full suss bikes and the service from Bird has been amazing. Can't imagine many other bike companies would offer the same buying and aftercare service.

I do like bird bikes, but by the time a dropper is added that takes it to £1400 which pushes the budget a bit!!!

Although looking at frame only options, I think all the kit from my trek would swap over, has same 142 12 rear too.

Do it!

If you are after a cheaper dropper post than say a reverb I can recommend the brand x dropper from chain reaction so far. Been running it since May and still as smooth as day 1 so far. Dropper lever is great too.

https://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/CBOODEEDARNX1/on-one-deedar-sram-nx1-mountain-bike

I bought a Parkwood which i've put over 3000 miles on and has been faultless.

For some reason I like this..:

Can get from my LBS too. Nail trail still looks good, but think the 29er would have been great but all sold out!
