Hi All,
I've just purchased a new rear Hope M4 Evo. I fitted it and bolted evrything in place. Now the problem starts - on squeezing the lever it feels different to the front. The lever does not return at the normal rate of the front but moves slightly slower/hindered.
What could this be? Is there an O ring where the piston enters the lever? If so then is the tollerance out on the O ring?
Has anyone else had this problem and know what to do about it?
Cheers all.
Give Hope a call - it doesn't sound right.
Check you've not mounted it too close to your shifter, if it's touching the top plate of the shifter it can cause the lever return to be very slow.
Squeeze the brake and knock the hose to move any air bubbles that have been transported in transit, then squeeze the lever many times. I usually take the bike outside, hold both levers down and rock the bike up and down, so the front and rear wheels lift and hit the ground - it shifts the air quite effectively.
That's pretty much all your problem is going to be from new - the rear will always not be quite a snappy as the front, due to the additional amount of fluid and the additional surface are of the hose that'll expand - but we're talking relatively unnoticeable amounts.
Pivot bolt slightly tight would be my guess - the lever is returned by a spring in the master cyclinder is it not?
Thanks you lot, will try all methods and report back. ๐
