[#1656118]

having run my E2 into the ground, i'm after a new helmet.

Current choices are a Giro Athlon or Hex as a general trail riding helmet.

Before I go mad and order one, just wondering if there's anything else that's worth considering?

Any suggestions welcomed! Budget not an issue.

I've got a Specialized Enchelon for road use and a Bell summit or other for commuting, the Giro Hex is what I use for MTB and to be honest I wouldn't use anything else as it's a nice strong helmet that'll take hitting branches etc with out a hit of worry.

Maybe the nice Specialized ones for MTb would be good, but I do rather trust the HEX

Fox flux. Heavy but brilliant.
I like it coz it's a better fit to the Hex and E2 that I had before. Not quite as good at cooling as the E2 though

i've seen the flux, but the rear spoiler thing? does that come off or not?

I'd consider a specialized 2D but they look like sonic the hedgehog from the back!

I was a long term Giro customer but swapped to a Bell Volt a couple of years ago and I've found it great - certainly seems to fit me better than the E2 I had before.

Look at Uvex - my mate is really pleased with their version of the Xen and I love the mtb/road one I've had from them.

liking the volt! whats the sizing like? as in, if you're a medium in a Giro are you still a medium in the bell?

i like the idea of an MTB that is convertible to a roadie one

It's not "removable" but I'm sure you could... I've learnt to get over people's comments on it.

Have you thought of one of those that Kaiser Bill used to wear with a great big spike on top?

I think you may be overanalysing this. Why not do what I generally do? Take your credit card down to LBS, try a few on, see which fits the best and then buy the one that looks the coolest!

My Uvex XP100 is ace - bit longer at the back, cool enough on hot days, but has THE best head cradle on the market. Fits anyone, simple and quick to adjust and the chin adjuster is useful as well (buff on / buff off or rattly downhill vs climb)

I've got the Uvex as well and it's really good. I much prefer it to my E2. I also had a Bell Variant that I really liked.

+1 for Bell Volt. The only niggle is the straps don't sit too flush on the side of your head. Otherwise don't really notice it & the dial on the back is much easier to adjust than the Roc Loc.
The old E2 was good until the Roc Loc broke / wouldn't stay in it's mount.
